Russian elite invested nearly $100 million in Trump buildings: Thoughts
So, today the Republican majority of the House Intelligence Committee voted to end their investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. According to House Republicans “... a string of contacts between Donald Trump's associates and Russian government affiliates fell short of collusion”. Obviously, this is a great relief to every sentient voter who feels deep concern about who they elected as President of the United States – and welcomed assurance that the Republicans are protecting us from future Russian attacks on our elections.
It’s over folks – nothing to see here.
Whew, I was really concerned that Donald Trump was being blackmailed by Vladimir Putin because of his years of providing money laundering services to Russian oligarchs and governmental officials through The Trump Organization. This move by the GOP should certainly put to rest any reservations Americans may have concerning Trump's announcement at the Republican Convention in 2016 that, as President,he would ease the sanctions that had been placed on Russia due to its invasion and seizure of Crimea.
And by closing this investigation, we can all finally get a good night’s sleep because Republicans are clearly in charge, and, contrary to common sense, the Trump Administration is not dismantling, (in alphabetical order) – the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, EPA, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, the OMB, State, Transportation, Treasury, Veterans Affairs, …and lest we forget: the Justice Department.
But for some Americans, this move by House Republicans is nothing if not an outrageous act of obstruction. An act that should cause the Republican Party itself to be investigated. Why would a legitimate American political party refuse to take this major breach of American security seriously? What do they gain by killing this investigation? And what do we lose by permitting them to do it?
John Brennan, Director of the CIA from March 2013 to January 2017, said this on Tuesday about Donald Trump’s involvement with Putin: “I think he’s afraid of the president of Russia.” “The Russians, I think, have had long experience with Mr. Trump and may have things they could expose.”
So on that note, I think it’s time to reread an article that appeared in Reuters on March 17, 2017 entitled: “Moscow on the Beach - Russian elite invested nearly $100 million in Trump buildings” ..to brush up on how Trump could have colluded with Russia – and why the House GOP should be investigated for obstructing a thorough investigation into Donald Trump, his business dealings, and those who surround him.
